Young and versatile musician, at the age of 4 he started to study violin and cello. He cleverly graduated in cello at Santa Cecilia Conservatory of Rome, with the teacher Maurizio Gambini. He attended to many masterclasses, kept by famous cellists like Francesco Strano, Michael Flaksman, Jelena Ocic, Denis Shapovalov. He kept studying cello graduating “cum laude” in the same Conservatory, specializing in his instrument with Dante Cianferra and attending simultaneously, with remarkable ability, other courses like “Viola da Gamba” and “Composizione della Musica Applicata alle Immagini” (“Music scoring for films and images”). He took part in many music performances, sponsored by “Comune di Roma”, “Regione Lazio” and “European Union”, as a soloist, musician in instrumental ensemble, composer, first cello of Orchestra Filarmonica Prenestina and Orchestra of Santa Cecilia Conservatory. He also studied for a period of time in the Music Academy of Krakow, Poland, taking cello and chamber music lessons. He took part to important concerts with the Krakow Music Academy Symphony Orchestra. He is active in composition for art and cultural movies and exhibitions in important museums and institutions in Italy, like “Archivio centrale di Stato” and “Museo della mente”. He’s also very active in chamber music and he teaches cello in “L’INSIEME” Music Association of Rome, and he composes and arranges classical and pop music for the Orchestra of the same Association.
Flavio Malatesta made his debut as a composer during ContaminAzioni festival in Rome, during september 2011, when he was 19 years old. He participated, as composer and cellist, in many Roman festivals such as Musica a Roma… per Roma, Santa Cecilia suona al S.Camillo. He composes music for various interactive exhibitions in different and famous Roman public institutions and museum including Archivio Centrale di Stato “ACS” (Eur) during 60th anniversary since fondation, for Museo della Mente and Archivio Centrale di Roma for the 70th anniversary celebration since Roma’s liberation (where he moreover played extemporaneous improvisations on J.S.Bach’s style, with his cello).
He has scored many short films and musical projects, conducting local chamber music and vocal group.
He composes and arrange music of all kinds for “L’INSIEME Music School” in Rome (in which he teaches cello) and for its Orchestra.
Recently Flavio worked as a composer for the Android platform game “Kubik Game” (download available on PlayStore).
He’s now collaborating remotely with the british band Crows in the Cornfield, composing and recording the cello track for their songs.
In the last job list are included collaborations with important and famous brazilian industries, as a composer for the music in their institutional videos.
